Sleep paralysis
DAUTBEGOVIĆ, Nino
This bachelor thesis is a summary of findings about sleep paralysis, its manifestation, causes, risk factors and prevention and treatment. It is conceived as a survey study and research from foreign language sources. At the beginning condition of sleep paralysis is defined, differentiated, and approximate prevalence is stated along with an explanation of why statistical results on prevalence are hard to obtain. Thesis is afterwards divided into cultural and neuropsychological part. The first part deals with culturally conditioned manifestations and rate of prevalence of sleep paralysis. The second part provides an insight into neurophysiology of state based on REM stage of sleep. Further are described single risk factors whose presence may increase the risk of sleep paralysis. In conclusion of the thesis are described preventive procedures and techniques along along with possible treatment options.
